Alex Blondeau Nominated for Upstream Minnesota’s Unsung Caretaker Award for Dedication to Growing and Caring for Threatened Native Prairie Plants
Fergus Falls, MN – Alex Blondeau, owner of Windflower Natives, has been nominated for the prestigious Unsung Caretaker Award by Upstream Minnesota, an organization dedicated to taking our shared love of Minnesota’s natural places and channeling it into greater trust, connection, and stewardship. This award honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to caring for Minnesota’s unique natural places.
Alex has become a voice for native prairie ecosystems in the region, nurturing species that are critical for local biodiversity, soil health, and threatened pollinator populations. As the owner of Windflower Natives, he has cultivated a wide range of sometimes challenging to propagate prairie plants for both private and public restoration projects, fostering greater awareness of the importance of native species in land conservation efforts.
“I am honored to be nominated for the Unsung Caretaker Award,” said Alex. “Discovering our native ecological heritage has been a love story for me. In a way that’s honestly difficult to describe, I’ve been brought home. It’s humbling to be recognized for this work, and I hope it only serves to invite others home as well.”
Upstream Minnesota’s Unsung Caretaker Award celebrates the dedication and hard work of individuals who quietly contribute to the health and well-being of Minnesota’s ecosystems. Alex has been growing native plants as Windflower Natives for two years now, playing a key role in supplying local ecotype prairie plants to restoration projects, homeowners, and businesses across Minnesota.
The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday October 9th at Elm Creek Park Reserve 12400 James Deane Pkwy Maple Grove, where Alex and other nominees, including Fergus Falls native, Molly Stoddard, will be honored for their contributions to environmental stewardship.
