Shipping charges

We charge a flat rate of $18 per shipment. Shipping live plants is careful and often painstaking work. This charge helps to cover the time it takes to prepare your plants so that they arrive in great condition!

Shipping Seasons

With the exception of bare root orders (see below), most orders placed during our spring preorder window ship around the middle of May, unless noted otherwise on the product page. Orders placed after May 31st ship in mid-September. You will receive an email with tracking information when your order is on the way.

Bare Root Plants
If you order bare root plants you may receive your order in separate shipments at different times than the rest of your order. See the product page for additional information on bare root shipping dates. Some bare root plants need to be dug and shipped in April and October.

Local Pick Up

If you are a local customer and would like to pick your order up in person, simply select “local pickup” during checkout. You will be notified by email how to sign up for a pickup date and time a few weeks prior to the pick up window opening.

Guarantee

We want your plantings to succeed! We guarantee that every plant you purchase will be true to name and healthy at time of pick up or delivery. Should plant losses occur due to delays in delivery or unfavorable weather conditions get in touch with us immediately. Due to the wide range of factors outside of our control, we cannot guarantee the viability of plants after they have been installed. However, should you experience challenges, please reach out! We may be able to help.

Cancellation

Spring and fall pre-orders may be canceled at any time prior to April 15th for spring pre-orders and July 15th for fall pre-orders. Cancellations made after these dates will be subject to a 20% restocking fee.

The pleated gentian is one of the more rare gentians in Minnesota. According to the Minnesota DNR, it is a species of special concern that seems to be found only in very specific conditions along the margins of northwestern Minnesota. Also known as northern gentian, Rocky Mountain gentian, it is—as the name implies—a primary resident of the Rocky Mountains. There, clear on the other side of the Great Plains, it grows abundantly in alpine meadows, bog edges, and open forests. A spirit of the west, of the mountains, growing here on the edge of our home territory!

It is an open gentian, much like the more common downy gentian, but is a bit smaller, lighter in color, and has small speckles within its bell shaped flower that is reminiscent of the stars in the night sky. Gentians like these can take a few years to establish and may be slow to bloom, but the reward is worth the wait. Their refined growth habit, rich blue color, and ecological importance make them a standout addition to restoration projects and specialty gardens alike.
